Enjoy the Unexpected Grandeur of Eastern Europe |
The Europe you may not have discovered yet has so much to offer. Countries east of Germany, Austria, and Italy are lesser-traveled and are starting to take their place in the spotlight as intrepid travelers (tired of the crowds elsewhere) venture a little further for fun. In many Eastern European countries, the prices are more budget-friendly, and the locals are welcoming. |
Prague, Czechia | Four Seasons |
In Czechia (also known as the Czech Republic), wander the cobblestone of Old Town Prague before heading inside Prague Castle to see the impressive architecture and stained glass windows of Gothic St. Vitus Cathedral.
Head over to Hungary next, where the spa and wellness lifestyle is long established – the grand thermal pools of Budapest are a treasure. The architecture and Belle Époque glamour of the Szechenyi Baths are a must-see soak. |
Budapest, Hungary | Szechenyi Bath, Hungary |
Romania may be famous for Bran Castle (often called Dracula’s castle) in the Carpathian Mountains, but there are many more medieval fortresses and traditional villages throughout the country. Most have retained their cultural heritage and delicious culinary traditions (don’t leave without trying cozonac sweet bread and papanasi doughnuts). |

Slovakia is popping up on many more social media feeds as travelers are drawn to its folk traditions and rich heritage. The country is home to 20 UNESCO World Heritage sites and claims the highest number of castles and châteaux per capita (take that, Loire Valley!). The most famous might be the stunning 900-year-old Spis Castle. |

Now don’t confuse Slovakia with Slovenia, which is further south and sits between the Julian Alps and the Adriatic Sea. Locals love hiking, so follow suit and take to the Juliana Trail or one of many day trips into the mountains. Or head underground and go spelunking in the Karst region. All visitors, however, should wander the central market in the capital of Ljubljana, as it offers the best of the country’s fruits, cheeses, liqueurs, and honey. |
Postojna Cave Park, Slovenia | Hiking in the Alps, Slovenia |
Poland, where history, tradition and tasty pierogis reside – may be the best known country in Eastern Europe. Must-visit spots include Warsaw and its rebuilt Old Town. The memorial site of Auschwitz-Birkenau, about three hours drive south of the capital, is an important spot to contemplate the Holocaust and history. Poland is also home to some 500 castles, so grab a map, get a rental car and head out to explore. Stop often for dumplings, sauerkraut and smoked cheese from the Tatra mountain region. |

Eastern Europe should be your next best holiday destination—let us help you create an unforgettable itinerary. |
